Balcony
starting the set
I've been working on a set of modular castle pieces that I could use on one large environment. The big picture is a sprawling castle nestled away in a snowy mountain range. For this, I started to experiment with world aligned blends to coat my objects in snow regardless of orientation. While most of the castle is going to be a bright white, I wanted to create a few accent features to give it some color. For this, I wanted to use a very over saturated wood for the door, allowing the object to stick out more.

The model
It feels like a good while since I've done some good ol' fashion hard surface modelling. To get back into it, I wanted to create my own version of this image I found on Pinterest. I wanted to give the stone parts of this an amount of wear that gave them that old feeling, but not too old. Antique. Grand. Something that lasts. The texture styling I kept pretty realistic because I knew I wanted to use stylized lighting to achieve a storybook like effect.
Lighting
For the lighting on this render (and eventually my final project) , I wanted to use some of Unreal's post processing effects to bump up the saturation and push some of my shadow colors. It gave the balcony a nice fairytale-like effect.
